Episode 29—Scrap Quilts Are My Favorite Quilts
I took up quilting around 2010, after many years of being a professional knitting designer. For some reason, I was very drawn to scrap quilts, and they remain my favorites kinds to make. I am fascinated by the interplay of random bits of fabric. Join me for a discussion of my favorite books and patterns and get a few tips for making some scrap quilts of your own.

SHOW NOTES
The Practical Guide to Patchwork by Elizabeth Hartman—this was the first quilting book I bought, and while it isn’t a scrap quilt book, per se, many of the patterns included lend themselves very well to scrap quilts.
Sunday Morning Quilts by Amanda Jean Nyberg and Cheryla Arkison—I have lost count of the number of quilts I have made from the patterns in this book, specifically Scrapper’s Delight, Candy Coated, and Sunday Morning. The number is well over a dozen, including two king-sized versions for our bed.
Roberta Horton’s Scrap Quilts: The Art of Making Do—truly a classic. Roberta explores all the concepts that factor into making a scrap quilt. This is more of a scholarly text than a pattern book, but if you’re looking for inspiration, you’ll find it here.
Make + Love Quilts by Mary Fons—Mary is the daughter of Marianne Fons, co-host of the PBS series Fons and Porter’s Love of Quilting. Mary carries on her mother’s work with some quilt designs of her own with a scrappy yet modern feel.
