Episode 17—Let's Go to Sew Expo!

The Sewing and Stitchery Expo—fondly known as Sew Expo—is celebrating 40 years this year! This annual event is produced by Washington State University and held at the Washington State Fairgrounds in Puyallup, WA, near Tacoma. This year’s event is scheduled for February 29th to March 3rd.

My guests today are Jenn Geise, Education Manager, and Brittany Labbe, Show Manager. We’ll talk about the history of the show, the classes—class offerings are changing a bit this year in response to attendee feedback—and other fun events that are offered as part of Expo. This event draws attendees from all over the country and is a great way to expand your sewing skills in a dynamic setting. My friend Tera and I attended Sew Expo for the first time last year and had a blast! We indulged ourselves in four days of learning, shopping, and socializing. This year, I’ll be back as a teacher.

Registration for Sew Expo opens at 9 am Pacific time today. If you are interested in attending, don’t delay registering as classes usually sell out quickly.

Minerva.com—This UK-based fabric store has a wonderful selection of anything you can possibly need to level up your sewing. Not sure where to start? Their Core Range fabrics are quality basics to add to your stash. I used the cotton/Lycra French Terry in the Celestial Motion colorway to make my most recent Jalie Nathalie and it is stunning. They have a wonderful YouTube channel as well.

The Jalie Nathalie top—I’ve made a few of these and this pattern has quickly become a favorite. Jalie produces quality patterns; the Jalie Renee Pants are another of my tried-and-true patterns.

The Pink Classic Quilt Tutorial from Cluck Cluck Sew—I used this pattern to make a baby blanket for one of my cousins who has a new granddaughter. It is great for using up small amounts of fabric and comes together quickly.
